Marvel Re-Releases “Avengers: Endgame” Artwork After Excluding Danai Gurira

Fans, friends, and honorary Wakandans came through for Black Panther actress Danai Gurira today after Marvel seemed to have left her name out of the official movie poster for Avengers: Endgame. The artwork features a dozen names of celebrities featured in the Disney/Marvel blockbuster, but fans noticed that Gurira, who portrays Okoye, wasn't included—and they weren't happy.

"BLACK PANTHER star Danai Gurira is the only actor pictured whose name isn’t billed at the top," Jamil Smith, Senior Writer at Rolling Stone, tweeted. "Her image is larger than some actors who do get that billing. The only one from the franchise’s best and most profitable movie, and yet?
@MarvelStudios, this isn’t difficult. Fix this."

"Odd to not see Danai Gurira's name on this poster. Made room for every actor but her. #AvengersEndgame," BlackGirlNerds wrote. Another user said, "I want someone to come in and say that we’re exaggerating for being mad about Danai's name not being displayed at the top lmfao we’re 'overreacting' because it makes no sense. she’s in the picture so why can’t her name be at the top along with the rest of the cast?"

Marvel felt the heat and wanted to put out the fire before the criticism grew, so they re-released the poster with Gurira's name included. "She should have been up there all this time," Marvel Studios tweeted. "Check out the official Marvel Studios' #AvengersEndgame poster. @DanaiGurira #WakandaForever." That satisfied fans, but they were still turned off that the comic giant didn't do so in the first place. Avengers: Endgame hits theaters on April 26.
